The Person-Centred Approach:

The Person-Centred approach is based upon a deep respect for the person and the belief that the relationship between the counsellor and the client is of primary importance.

It is the client who knows what hurts and who has the capacity, within the safety of a therapeutic relationship, to begin a healing process.

The essential qualities for creating a safe, supportive and challenging therapeutic environment, where growth and possible change may take place, include:

  • a deep acceptance of the person
  • a desire to understand the experience of that person
  • a commitment to being genuine in the relationship

These qualities, offered professionally and consistently, are the central and distinctive characteristics of the Person-Centred Approach.

Maureen and Christine are Concepts’ permanent counsellors. If they are not available for any reason, then Concepts will use the services of other counsellors – all of whom will be trained professionally to at least diploma level in counselling.
